I am an independent researcher, coach and contemplative practitioner.
I have thousands of hours of experience solving complex psychological issues, mapping people's minds, developing psychological tools and training people in introspective methodology.
Before starting my coaching business in 2019, I worked on developing an "engineering grade" theory and practice of psychology at Leverage Research, a private research institute funded by various Silicon Valley luminaries. My primary focus was on developing reliable tools for introspection. Prior to that, I ran the visiting fellows program at the Singularity Institute, where I helped to design and run the pilot programs that eventually became the Center for Applied Rationality.
As a researcher, I mostly study minds and how they relate to each other and to other complex systems such as organizations, societies and bodies. My primary aim is to find ways of relating to these systems that better facilitate positive growth and healing. I think that our minds are both more understandable and more malleable that most believe and I hope to develop and share better methods for working with them.
As a coach, I help people to develop a good working relationship with themselves and with reality. While working with clients, I try to stay attuned to exactly what they need in each moment. Outside of sessions, I try to develop powerful concepts and frameworks in order to make it easier for people to understand themselves and grow in the direction of greater holistic aliveness.
When I’m not coaching or theorizing, I’m staring into my mind. It’s great fun. I’ve experimented with many different psychological tools, meditation practices, weird paradigms and more. My primary practice is a home-brewed fusion of Buddhist-style meditation and technical introspection.
After many years of contemplative hermitude, I'm trying to understand what is going on in the world and what I can do to help.
